In this paper, I look at current theories on global science fiction (sf) that are alert to the role of imperialism in sf literature. Examining the work of Istvan Csicsery-Ronay, Jr., John Rieder, and Patricia Kerslake, among others, I describe how these theories, which deal primarily with sf produced by former colonial powers, may be extended in the context of sf produced by writers from the colonies during the colonial period and after independence. While little attention had been paid to sf produced by countries outside the Anglo-American and European world in early sf historiography, current sf criticism is investigating these in a larger global context (for instance Eastern European, Latin American, African, West and South Asian).
